To start with, the reason that I decided to do a race in February, after I clearly said that I wasn’t racing until April, is that this is the free race registration that I received for being an Omaha Running Club member.
So lets start with the weather. It was so COLD! The temp was about 7 degrees with it feeling like -5 to -10 F, with the wind chills. If you have been following me, you know that I don’t run in the cold. I am a wimp when it comes to being cold, and have accepted that. Add in that this race is right by the Missouri river, the wind was brutal.
Next up, the course. This would have been a really pretty course in the spring or summer. It was a frozen tundra for this race. I love running by the river because to me it is so beautiful. It is a place that I spend a lot of time fishing on in the summer.
This was not a good race for me, my phone shut off from being so cold about half way through. So I had no tunes, was frozen solid and just plain not happy. So I finished this 8k in about an hour. I couldn’t even get a good photo until I was home, because my phone wouldn’t turn back on.
The best perk to this race was the food! They had a chili feed with salad and hot coffee. It is also a fun time to meet other members and socialize, plus I got some super cute and warm new gloves. I was sad that there were no finishers medal but food tends to appease me. For me, next year, I will probably volunteer at this race. Somewhere inside where it is warm haha.
Did you race this weekend?
